AP: У Туреччині суд відправив у в’язницю головного суперника Ердогана на виборах
У середу, 14 грудня, суд у Туреччині засудив мера Стамбула Екрема Імамоглу до двох років і семи місяців ув’язнення за звинуваченням у образі членів Вищої виборчої ради країни, повідомляє Новое время.
Про це повідомляє Associated Press.
Імамоглу було висунуто звинувачення в образі чиновників після того, як 4 листопада 2019 року він назвав скасування законних виборів “дурістю”.
Мер заперечував образу членів виборчої ради, наполягаючи на тому, що його слова були відповіддю на те, що міністр внутрішніх справ Сулейман Сойлу назвав його «дурнем» і звинуватив у критиці Туреччини під час відвідин Європейського парламенту.
Суд також наклав заборону на політичну діяльність Імамоглу, що може призвести до його звільнення з посади.
Очікується, що Імамоглу, який належить до головної опозиційної Республіканської народної партії, оскаржуватиме вирок.
Критики стверджують, що суд над мером є спробою усунути ключового опонента президента Туреччини Реджепа Таїпа Ердогана. Наступного року у Туреччині заплановані президентські вибори і Ердоган балотуватиметься. Імамоглу вважається кандидатом, який здатний скласти серйозну конкуренцію Ердогану.
